The US trade preferences under the umbrella of the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) comprise the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act (CBERA) of 1983, the US-Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA) of 2000 and the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) Act of 2006. The HOPE II Act of 2008 expanded on the benefits offered to Haiti under CBERA. The CBTPA has recently been extended without change until 2020 and benefits to Haiti in the wake of January 2010 earthquake have been enhanced under the Haiti Economic Lift Program (HELP) 2010.
