The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding a three-year Local Capacity for Local Solutions project geared at improving the managerial and operational capacity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean (ESC). The project will utilize innovative methods that support organizations to be more efficient, effective and sustainable. RTI International is the prime implementer of the project and the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) is a major partner. Countries that the project targets include: 1) Antigua and Barbuda; 2) Barbados; 3) Dominica; 4) Grenada; 5) Guyana; 6) St. Kitts and Nevis; 7) St. Lucia; 8) St. Vincent and the Grenadines; 9) Suriname; and 10) Trinidad and Tobago.

The Local Capacity for Local Solutions project is offering scholarships to NGO personnel to pursue an online NGO Management Certificate Course delivered by the University of the West Indies, Open Campus. The Certificate course consists of two courses: MGMT 073: Essentials of NGO Management and MGMT 074: Developing and Managing Projects and are expected to be undertaken concurrently. The applicants must work in the focal areas identified (climate change, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security, LGBTI, or gender) and be based in one of the ten target project countries.

USAID is providing Comprehensive Capacity Grants for NGOs in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean

In support of USAID’s development objectives, RTI International is implementing a project: Local Capacity for Local Solutions award. Under this project, Comprehensive Capacity Grants will be awarded with an approximate value ranging from $8,000.00 to $15,000.00 (over a 12-month period). The purpose of the Comprehensive Capacity Grants is to strengthen the operational and managerial capacity of NGOs so that they can be more efficient, effective, and sustainable in their operations and better contribute to development goals in their countries. The grant will pay for the time of employees of the NGO to participate in capacity building activities and, in select cases, to apply their skills to develop policies, systems, or structures that will help these organizations improve their operations.

Who is Eligible:

Any Non-U.S. NGOs that are:

  • implementing activities in one of the key USAID sectors: youth/citizen security[1] (priority sector); HIV/AIDS; LGBTI; or the environment;
  • registered and working in at least one of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
  • interested in improving their organizational and managerial capacity by fully participating in capacity building activities; and
  • A priority will be placed on NGOs that work with USAID-funded projects, although this is not a requirement.

In order to be eligible for a grant, applicants must:

  • be legally registered and operating in one of the six countries mentioned above;
  • have physical space to conduct their activities;
  • have a proven track record of successful implementation of projects in the proposed county;
  • have been active for at least 3 years operating within their sector and respective country;
  • have at least three (3) staff; which can be a mix of full-time, part-time and volunteers;
  • be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project – not acting as an intermediary/consultant;
  • be willing to comply with all technical and financial requirements for participation in the program, including reporting and documentation of project activities; and
  • be willing to participate in assessments, training, workshops, or other activities considered important for achieving project goals and be eligible to receive funded awards from the United State government.

Call for Proposals – Consultancy to Produce a Research Paper on the Provision of Services within the EPA

The Caribbean Policy Development Centre is commissioning a research paper under the auspices of the CARIFORUM Consultative Committee of the Economic Partnership Agreement.  This research aims to assess the status of trade in services within the Economic Partnership Agreement with reference to access by Caribbean service providers to European markets. Specific attention will be paid to access to markets by small to medium sized service providers in the CARIFORUM region.

While there is no direct cost to the scholarship recipients, there is a registration fee of $100 USD which will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the course.

Call for Proposals: Communications and Media Consultant

The Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in partnership with the European Union (EU) is undertaking a joint 2-year grant partnership that seeks to increase productivity while decreasing operational input of small farmers in Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, with a focus on women and youth. CPDC as the regional NGO representative organisation is seeking to procure the services of a qualified candidate to assist in increasing the awareness of the Climate Smart Agriculture project. More specifically, the required services will provide an outreach strategy and social media plan for the project.

Reissued Call for Expressions of Interests to Undertake Small Scale Advocacy Actions

The Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in partnership with the European Union (EU) is implementing a joint 3-year grant partnership that seeks to build the capacity of the Non-Governmental Sector in the Caribbean through the implementation of a number of specific actions. As a key component of the project CPDC has been working to foster and an enabling legislative and regulatory environment for NGOs across the Caribbean region to contribute more effectively to national and regional development.

CPDC invites registered NGOs located in the CARIFORUM region to submit Expressions of Interest to undertake Small Scale Advocacy Actions that engage policymakers at the national level to create enabling legislative environments for NGOs to improve their operations.

Open Call for NGOs to apply for Consultative Status with the United Nations

1 June 2018 is the last day for Non-Governmental Organizations to apply for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in order to have an opportunity to take part in UN deliberations. ECOSOC consultative status is governed by ECOSOC resolution 1996/31, which outlines the eligibility requirements for consultative status, rights and obligations of NGOs in consultative status, procedures for the withdrawal or suspension of consultative status, the role and functions of the ECOSOC Committee on NGOs, and the responsibilities of the UN Secretariat in supporting the consultative relationship. Consultative status is granted by ECOSOC upon recommendation of the ECOSOC Committee on NGOs, which is composed by Member States.

The Local Capacity for Local Solutions project is offering 15 scholarships to senior NGO leaders/managers to attend a Leadership Training Workshop focused on improving advocacy skills.  The participants must work in the focal areas identified (climate change, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security, LGBTI, or gender) and be based in one of the ten target project countries. 

 

The training is scholarship based which includes tuition fee, airfare, hotel accommodation and meals. However, there is a non-refundable registration fee of USD$150.00 if accepted to be part of the training workshop.
