CPDC Projects

1) Civil Society Regional Development Project

 

The Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in partnership with the European Union (EU) is undertaking a joint 3-year grant partnership. The project “Support to Facilitate Participation of CARIFORUM Civil Society in the Regional Development and Integration Process ” seeks to build the capacity of the Non-Governmental Sector in the Caribbean through the implementation of a number of specific actions.

2) The CIVICUS Monitor: Tracking Civic Space

 

The CIVICUS Monitor is a cutting-edge research tool built by civil society. It aims to share reliable, up-to-date data on the state of civil society freedoms in all countries. Their interactive world map allows you to access live updates from civil society around the world, track threats to civil society and learn about the ways in which our right to participate is being realised or challenged.

3) PASCA

 

The Organisation of American States (OAS) has established a participatory mechanism called the Permanent Inter-American Forum of Civil Society and Social Actors (PASCA). It aims to promote participatory governance within the OAS.

4) Global Media Monitoring Project

 

The Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) is the largest and longest longitudinal study on gender in the world’s media.  It is also the largest advocacy initiative in the world on changing the representation of women in the media.  It is unique in involving participants ranging from grassroots community organizations to university students, and researchers to media practitioners, all of whom participate on a voluntary basis.

5) Promoting Renewable Energy Production in Farming Communities in Barbados

 

This project Promoting Renewable Energy Production in farming communities in Barbados aims to support climate change mitigation efforts in Barbados. It is funded by the Global Environment Facility Small Grant Projects, implemented by the UNDP. It focuses on the agricultural sector given its importance to food security and sovereignty, rural development, import substitution, and in the long term, sustainable development of the small island developing states (SIDS) of the region.

6) UN Women Step It Up/He for She Project

 

In 2015, CPDC partnered with UN Women under the Step It Up Project with the following objectives: to promote Caribbean Women’s Voice and Action in Intergovernmental Processes at the local, regional and international levels; support strategic advocacy and communications for engaging gender equality and women’s empowerment; and provide long term support to civil society in monitoring and implementing substantive equality using the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Samoa Platform for Action and the Sustainable Development Goals.

7) Climate Smart Agriculture Project

 

The project “Promoting sustainable livelihoods among Eastern Caribbean farmers” is implemented in partnership between Pro NGO! e.V., Koeln, Germany and the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC), Bridgetown, Barbados.

8) Voices of Women

 

The Caribbean Policy Development Centre, in collaboration with the Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit and the Office of Recruitment and Marketing, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus have partnered on a project titled Preserving the Legacy of Caribbean Women.
