MISSION
To reduce the transmission of HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM) and Trans persons, by promoting a healthy lifestyle.
VISION
The realization of the right to health, equal protection before the law and privacy , are prerequisites for a healthier life of MSM and Trans persons.
FOCAL AREAS
Health, Advocacy, Psycho Social Care and HIV Testing and Counselling.
KEY OBJECTIVES
To empower MSM and Trans persons;
To advocate for the protection of human rights for MSM and Trans persons ; and
To promote health promotion amongst MSM& Trans persons.
MAJOR/CURRENT ACHIEVEMENTS
The Introduction of Social Cohesion Events which is a strategy to reach MSM & Trans persons. At these events, HIV testing and counseling is provided as well as free contraception;
The Development of Suriname's Men United (SMU) quarterly newsletter which is currently being utilized as an awareness strategy at events and schools;
The launching of the media campaign "ik ben Surinamer, gelijke rechten voor iedereen" which is translated as " I am Surinamese , equal rights for all". This campaign included several person from across various sections of Surinamese society such as parliamentarians, People Living with HIV (PLWHIV), LGBT youth, health care workers and musicians; and
The provision of training to NGOs and Government bodies on gender and sexuality.
